The Concarneau Marinarium

Permanent exhibition
Seasonal opening from February 2018 to January 2019

Know, understand, manage the sea... and better respect it. The Concarneau Marinarium has selected some highlights of marine life illustrated by aquariums, walls of images and videos.

The exhibition housed today tells the scientific adventure of the sea world: The first experiences of marine aquaculture, the identification of several plankton organisms, and the discovery of new molecules of therapeutic interest and new species of fish. The surface of the oceans represents two thirds of the total surface of the Earth. In this universe, it is estimated that the diversity of life forms is 1,000 to 10,000 times higher than on earth!

The themes developed in the tour circuit are as follows:

  • Ocean planet
  • The scientific activity of the Concarneau Station
  • Plankton, live freely in the ocean
  • The coastline, an immense wealth
  • Manage the resources of the sea
  • Glénan, an atoll in the Atlantic.

A space hosts temporary exhibitions. The aquariums and the large 120,000-litre basin shelter the local flora and fauna.

The Marinarium also includes a space devoted to the history of the station as well as a shop.
